"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give" - Winston Churchill

Here at Dragonfly & Blossom we live by the premise that a present is not a gift until it's wrapped - and beautifully! We all love receiving beautifully wrapped gifts almost as much as the gift itself :)

With Valentine's Day upon us we thought it was the right time for some tips on how you can get creative with your gift wrapping.

Here are some simple, quick and easy wrapping tips!

Always measure your wrapping paper first and trim off the excess. To determine how much you need, wrap a length of ribbon around the gift, then lay the ribbon on the gift wrap and trim it to the required length.

If you have trouble cutting giftwrap in a straight line, mark the paper at the edge of the sheet and fold it – then simply cut along the crease.

Avoid waste by keeping off-cuts. Odd lengths of ribbon come in handy to secure giftwrap in place – at the neck of a bottle, for instance.

If you don't have enough paper to cover your gift, make a ‘cheat pleat’ with another piece of paper. Make a feature of the pleat by centering it on top of the gift. You can get really creative by mixing and matching colours, patterns and designs!

When curling ribbon, remember to do so with scissors shut. Follow the natural curl of the ribbon when pulling it between your scissors and thumb.

If you are feeling especially creative, why don’t you try these ideas:

Wrap presents in plain paper and cut out relevant shapes from newspaper, magazines or even wallpaper remnants and stick on as decorations.

For a fun way to personalise presents, wrap in simple brown paper and create a name tag using an old photo copied onto thick paper or card.

If you have some old books or you can find some in a charity shop, use the pages to wrap your gifts. Then cut strips of pages and fold into bow shapes for a funky way to finish off your presents.

Colourful paper bags enclosed with string and a gift tag are very simple and effective too.

Whatever and however you send your gift this Valentine's - wrap it with love and seal it with a kiss ... and it will always be received with a smile.

Happy Valentine's to everyone from us all at Dragonfly and Blossom
