Crufts 2020 - every dog lovers dream day out - even in the face of adversity!
- by Sarah Holton
Dogs. I love them. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll often see my little Sid popping up, soon to be joined by the newest addition to the family, Lucy the dachshund!
Which is why we have wanted to be a part of Crufts and launch our own Dog Collection for years; we have lost count on the number of times we have been asked for a dog mug.
Even though 2020 has turned out to be a bit of an annus horribilis, it started off rather well when we were offered the opportunity to set up our own shopping space at Crufts 2020!
Our tails haven’t stopped wagging.
I started illustrating the moment I put the phone down; but how can you choose which breeds to include when there are so many gorgeous ones to choose from?
After much difficult (sic: cute) research, I settled on seven of the UK’s favourites:
Black Lab, Working Cocker Spaniel, French Bulldog, Dalmatian, Border Terrier, Miniature Schnauzer and the Wire Haired Dachshund.
I loved illustrating these dogs and watching their characters come to life on the page in front of me (including our own little Sid the Schnauzer).
I also fell a little bit in love with each and every one and wanted them to come to life so I could cuddle them all.
This collection has become one of my favourites, and is already proving my most popular to date.
The little touch of gentle colour in the fabric and the extra large mug gives it such a different feel, but yet so distinctively Dragonfly and Blossom with the pencil drawings and subtle design.
If you haven’t seen it yet, it has just been beautifully photographed and styled in a local setting for some gorgeous lifestyle shots, and I am really excited to be using these on our website, across social media and in print to celebrate the release of the new collection.
The build for Crufts was quite calm; unlike Ascot!
That said, the hard work never seems to change; packing products, lifting display crates and boxes, driving vans to/from the event all makes for a long set up day.
The vast NEC - albeit very exciting - made it quite the mission!
Positioned right next to a show ring, we were entertained every day with a different breed and the world of 'showing your dog' (*Sid, take note).
We met such gorgeous little four legged friends and met some amazing breeds that we had never even heard of!
The show was fantastic.
Even with the current climate there was a stoic sense of the 'show must go on' and everyone did their utmost with cleanliness to ensure the creeping virus was not passed along,
and the breeders and show dogs were as proud as ever of their placings and rosette
Scarlett Moffatt interviewed Dave and Finn (the life saving police dog) right next door to us at our stand and we were delighted to meet both Dave and Finn after their interview.
Check out Finns Law to discover more about their amazing story and the work and awareness they do every day
The feedback on our new Dog Collection was fantastic both from customers buying and choosing their favourite product to take home,
as well as so many admirers stopping to tell us they loved our product and stand.
Crufts 2020 is one to be remembered for so many reasons, and not least by Maisie the Wire Haired Dachshund taking home the coveted prize of 'Best In Show'
(even if the excitement did get the better of her!) ... as I am a very proud owner of an 8 week old Miniature Dachshund puppy.
I couldn't be more pleased with the result.
Thank you Crufts, we look forward to next time!
